Boring refers to the further processing of forged, cast or drilled holes. Boring can expand the aperture, improve precision, reduce surface roughness, and can better correct the deviation of the original hole axis.
Boring can be divided into rough boring, semi-fine boring and fine boring. The dimensional accuracy of fine boring can reach IT8-IT7, and the surface roughness Ra value is 1.6-0.8μm.
Boring is divided into general boring and deep hole boring. General boring can be done on ordinary lathes, and the boring tool can be fixed on the tailstock of the lathe or on a small tool holder. Deep hole boring requires a special deep hole drilling and boring machine , The boring tool should be added with a boring stalk, and a hydraulic pump station should be added to use the coolant to remove the iron filings.

1. The ordinary boring tool used for boring through holes, in order to reduce the radial cutting force and reduce the bending deformation of the tool holder, the general main declination angle is 45 degrees to 75 degrees, usually 60 degrees to 70 degrees .
2. The boring tool used for boring stepped holes and non-through holes, the main deflection angle is greater than 90 degrees, generally 95100 degrees, and the width of the tool head should be smaller than the radius of the hole.
2, Installation of the boring tool
1. The length of the knife rod protruding from the tool holder should be as short as possible to increase the rigidity and avoid the taper error of the hole due to the bending deformation of the knife rod.
2. The tip of the tool should be slightly higher than the center of rotation of the workpiece to reduce vibration and knife sticking, and prevent the lower part of the boring tool from damaging the hole wall and affecting the machining accuracy.
3. The knife rod should be installed straight, not skewed, so as to prevent the knife rod from damaging the processed surface.
